Hi, going to visit Chicago on Memorial day weekend, and finally see a game at Wrigley field. Are there good places to stay near the stadium, or better stay elsewhere and take public transportation to the game? Thanks for any advice.

We have stayed at both the City Suites on Belmont near Clark and the BW Hawthorne on North Broadway. Both are walking distance to Wrigley. Liked the Hawthorne a bit better, back from the street, less noise. Have a wonderful visit!

Most touristy things to do are downtown(deepending on what you like) but public transit to Wrigely is very easy. While staying in the area is cheap and the area is nice, you don't have to be limited to there.

Days Inn on Diversey is a nice mile walk to the park.

The Best Western at 3434 n Broadway is just a few blocks away, and it's nothing fancy at all but it's fine. I think we paid about $150 to stay a night there last year.

OP. You may have a challenging time finding anything near Wrigley Memorial Day weekend as that is IML (International Mr Leather). The host hotel is typically the Hyatt downtown (sometimes Hilton). However, they overflow to many major hotels and a lot of the attendees like to stay in Wrigley area hotels as those properties are also adjacent (or in) Boystown.

You may want to go on priceline.com to the "name your own price" feature and put in a bid for a North Michigan Ave/Gold Coast hotel. It would be very easy to commute from that area by the Red Line train up to Wrigley.

Good Luck

We are looking for this same thing for my dh and ds. They will spend one day in city and one day at Wrigley (tour and game). So would you suggest staying near/on Michigan Ave and commuting to Wrigley or the other way around? Also how would you suggest gettting to the hotel from Midway? We are from Texas and not accustomed to public transportation. TIA!

I would suggest staying on/near North Michigan Avenue and commuting up to Wrigley for the game. It will only take about 20 to 25 minutes on the Red Line subway from the Chicago Avenue or Grand stop up to the Addison Red Line Station by Wrigley Field (Chicago Ave and Grand Ave Red line stops are about 1 block west of N. Michigan Ave. and the trains leave about every 10 minutes during the day and early evening till midnight or so; not sure which stop would be closer to your hotel). You buy the subway ticket from a machine after taking the escalator/steps down into the station.

As for getting from Midway to the hotel, the least confusing thing would be just to take a taxi right outside baggage claim. It will cost no more than 30 bucks. You could take the Orange Line train from Midway Airport (it is down a long corridor...a bit of a walk). However, you would need to change to the Red Line at Roosevelt or one of several other stops and it gets pretty confusing. Or, you could just take the Orange Line train from Midway all the way to the "Lake St" stop (Lake and State) and then take a taxi from there to your hotel (about a 6 to 10 block ride). The taxi from that point would only be about 5 to 8 bucks depending upon your hotels exact location on N. Michigan.
