Default commuting to suburbs??

i'm moving to ravenswood area at the end of august - i currently work for metlife in nyc and i was called re: a position in itasca. this is not my ideal commute - i hadn't planned on even looking in the suburbs unless i couldn't find something elsewhere. it's tempting bc it would mean that i wouldn't miss pay or benefits in the interim, but i don't want to have to drive every day. i'm spoiled by my (albeit long and slow) commute by subway everyday and had planned on the same. is it feasible to commute to suburbs by train or is that just a huge hassle?? argh.

Where in Itasca is the job? There's a Metra (commuter rail) station in downtown Itasca. You could conceivably that the Metra from the Ravenswood station into Ogilvie station (downtown), walk across the street to Union Station then switch to a Metra going out to Itasca. Depending on how far you job is from the station, you could walk/bike to it.
check out the metra website Metra for details, maps, and schedules.

it just sounds aggravating!!

metlife offices are 2 miles from the station. it's appealing only in that it would be a smoother transition. i'm so getting ahead of myself anyway - i haven't even interviewed yet lol!!

my situation now is that i live far out in brooklyn and commute to queens, bypassing manhattan. i would prefer, since i'm not living in a suburb to not work there. my commute has been frustrating at best of late.

That commute would tremendously suck -- at least an hour each way, unless you leave before 6:30am or after 9:30am, and wait until after 7pm to come home, except on Fridays, when the inbound commute sucks pretty much until 9pm.
