Default Hyde Park

Hi everyone.

What's the commute like from Hyde Park to the West Loop (near the Sears tower)? Traffic , no traffic?

What are the public transportation options?

First, I would consider the West Loop anything west of the river from the loop. The Sears Tower I'd call South Loop. At any rate, from Hyde Park, its about a half hour by car or public transportation. The bus takes no longer than private cars -- they travel the same routes. The 28X from Hyde Park is an express bus down 51st street which goes to Union Station -- just a block from the Sears Tower. It doesn't run that frequently. The other two express buses serving Hyde Park, #6 and #2, let off folks at Michigan Ave. and State street, respectivley. That's not too far from the Sears Tower.

Check out the CTA site for the bus times and frequencies. Chicago Transit Authority | 1-888-YOURCTA

Actually, I think the Sears tower is in the Loop proper. Its only a block from the Quincy el stop.

In addition to the helpful adivce that Manigault gave, you could also take the Metra, which is the commuter rail system from Hyde Park. Its fast and safe. The only downside is it'll drop you off east of the loop and then you have to walk or bus it about half a mile to the Sears.
