Chi-town,

I am fully aware of the mansions along kedzie and logan blvd. I used to go to church at Armitage Baptist.

Most of Logan Square is not mansions. Crime is still relatively high and the public schools are poor unless your kid qualifies to Lane Tech.

My girlfriend and I have considered moving to Logan Square near the blue line but would most definitely move once the kids are in school.

I lived in Humboldt Park for 4 years, only a few blocks from Logan Square. While the area has gotten better, it is not an area I would want to raise a family. Apart from the boulevard and a few scattered teardowns, you will not be surrounded by upper middle class people but mostly working class and some lower middle class.

Though they never bothered me too much, you also have gangs that sometimes hang out, particularly in the western parts of logan square. If you stay east of western you are much safer and surrounded by more upper middle class people (wicker park, bucktown).

I think Irving Park is a good recommendation. 20-30% Hispanic, generally safe and you can get a nice SFH for that budget.

Andplusalso -- it's posted in the Chicago forum. Not the suburban forum.
This thread is in both forums, that is why I am confused. I'm not sure why it is in both forums.

Both parents are educated with graduate degrees. I'm assuming they want to raise their kids in a safe area with like-minded people. To be fair- is that reallly gonna happen in city-proper? Probably not happening in any latino-influenced neighborhood. Maybe places like: edison park, norwood park, rogers park, maybe bridgeport, garfield in the south neighborhoods.
