The main problem that I see with the Express Grill move is the congestion. There is no space for standing vehicles at that corner within a hundred feet of the intersection. I'm not sure how the owner expects people to come even when they need to park far away, but knowing the customer base of that restaurant, I fully expect them to put on their blinkers and block bus and car traffic anyway.

A few dozen calls to the alderman's office will fix that right quick. And once a few people get ticketed, word will spread.

We really need to figure out what to do about our current schizophrenia with regard to transportation policy. Congestion is not a good thing and the city provides comprehensive mass transit so that people don't have to drive everywhere. On the other hand, there's an insistence that businesses provide adequate parking and/or manage the traffic flow that their businesses create. When there is 'adequate parking' guess what people do? They drive instead of taking public transportation.

The rest of the "concerns" raised in that article are so breathlessly idiotic that they don't merit a serious reply. "Oh n0z, teh nabe is gonna smell like grilled onionz!! And it's gonna attract prostitutes!!! OMGWTFBBQ!!"

If 18th and Halsted isn't a fitting place for a Polish stand then there isn't such a place. Jesus Christ.

yeah, what do eastern europeans think they're doing trying to make a living in a neighborhood named after a beer they made famous around the world.

I just love the fact that none of these whiners seem to understand how this reasoning/fallacious cause-and-effect can be used as a precedent and will bite them in the kiester down the road.
