Hey guys, I'm moving from the south and know nothing about chicago.. I'm a young professional chef and need to keep my rent cheap (even looking at room shares) any ideas on what neighborhoods to look at? Somewhere where the scene is accessible AND affordable.

cheers

With room mates, the city is almost fully open to you. What are you looking for in a neighborhood?

There's a pretty general school of thought here that of the three big things people look for: Addordability, proximity to the loop, and safety, you can pretty easily find 2 of 3, but not 3 of 3.

So really it will depend on your tolerance for urban "grit" and what you can truly afford to spend. Any idea what your budget will be?

Do you know where you'll be working? What sort of scene are you looking for?

Bucktown, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Lakeview. Those are the usual top recommendations for young people coming into the city.
