Hello,

I am looking to move into Lincoln Park, however, that area requires a Residential Parking Permit. I would like to keep my car with an out-of-state license plate to keep cost low with the registration fees. I know you can get a city sticker with an out-of-state license plate, but can I also get a residential permit with an out-of-state plate as well?

Much thanks!

Ah if you are moving here you must change your plates, get the city sticker, and get the state plate sticker within a time period or else you will be ticketed. To get the residential one all you need is proof you live where you say you live (like a driver license). The city can ticket you for out for out of state plates ect….

When you arrive, the law requires that you get the state plates within 30 days. Your plan to keep costs low by keeping your out of state plates may prove to be the more expensive option should you get caught. I have heard that they have scanners that record out of state plates so they know when you have arrived, which starts the 30-day count. Don't know if this is true or not, but if your going to be staying long term, I would advise that you get things taken care of sooner than later. I have never had a boot on my car, but it sure does look like one major pain in the ass...
