I hear a lot of talk lately of renaming the former Cabrini Green neighborhood "NEW TOWN" because it's next to "OLD TOWN"
doe's anybody know if this is just a rumor?
I think it's great idea!

LOL. I know people who still remember when they called eastern Lake View "New Town" when the older/"livelier" (scummier!) aspects migrated north up Clark St to Broadway/Diversey/Clark.

Since it is the names of the projects that drove the name of the neighborhood, and the projects are gone, I guess they can call it whatever they want. Francis Cabrini Rowhomes are still standing, so that names stays, but the former Green Project could be New Town, or perhaps New Old Town, Ye New Olde Towne?

Chicago already had a "New Town" (roughly the triangle bounded by Broadway, Clark, and Belmont) back in the '70s-'80s... but the name didn't stick for some reason.

Seems very suburban-Ish to rename a neighborhood, other than real-estate marketing, why change the name?
