Just moved to the Lincoln Park area, and as this was the first time I'd moved while owning an actual bed, I found the experience rather unpleasant.

I'd really love to find some furniture that's totally minimalist, lightweight, and (preferrably) cheap. I'm okay with weird solutions like sleeping on slats on the floor, though something somewhat comfortable would be nice.

Is there a local retailer here in Chicago or a good online shop for weird, modern furniture that meets these requirements? Tired of moving giant metal bed frames and heavy solid wood dressers around every time I move. I need a more minimalist solution!

And please, god, no IKEA suggestions.

Dania? You do really need to get yourself out to the burbs to take a look at what Dania can offer you, though. Dania has a clearance center out in Lombard that sometimes has a few good deals.

Be forewarned, however, that the furniture it sells does not look like it would last you a lifetime.

Thanks Mac. Some of their stuff looks nice. Possibly not as minimalist as I'm hoping for, though. I definitely don't expect cheap/lightweight furniture to last a lifetime, so no worries there.

I'm guessing you're already familiar with CB2 - Modern Furniture, Home Accessories, and more at cb2.com?

It is expensive (to me at least.) There are, however, some people who do not bat an eyelash at buying a $700 rug or $3000 couch.

I tend to have CB2 tastes and sensibilities, but my entire apartment is outfitted in the fine, Swedish retailer known as Ikea.

Everything you said just screams Ikea, yet you don't want Ikea? How about just renting furnished apartments then?

Two generations of Lincoln Parkers have shopped for their first apartments at Affordable Portables, 2608 N. Clark.

These work great for beds:
Amazon.com: Queen Size Quad-Fold Folding Bed Frame: Home & Garden

Same thing except bi-fold instead of quad-fold:
Amazon.com: Pragma Bed® Mattress Platform - Bi-Fold - Full. No Box Spring needed. Ideal for memory foam, latex, and air mattresses.: Home & Garden
