It is not like he is a Chicago cop. Half of his days are probably really slow.

And that means I can't listen to music off and on throughout 12 hours? While driving through neighborhoods I drive slow with windows down and radio off so I can hear things going on. But if typing reports in a parking lot, etc. it's nice to have a little background music. It can drive you a bit stir crazy being in a car 12 hours. No tape deck, the cars are basically as striped down and basic as they get.

Syd, yup, that's right, it's only CPD that's busy all day and is the real Police who never have a resting moment. For me, I knit sweaters in the winter and do oil paintings of sunsets in the summer in between my barking dog calls.

My painting is better than my knitting, but I'm sure that will improve this winter. But I thought this topic was about radio anyway...

Radio stations across the nation would be doing a great public service if they forever banned the playing of the Eagles' "Hotel California" and John Mellencamp's "Small Town", two of the most tiresome songs of all time..

so true- they may as well ban "two tickets to paradise" or anything Eddie Money related period

Another band that makes me automatically turn the dial is anything by Sting or the Police -

ofcjim, what you need to lobby for is an IPod dock in your car. Then get an IPhone or ITouch and you can stream internet radio from a huge number of sources. Get your coworkers to help lobby for it, it'd be perfect.

Exactly. Other than NPR (for news and Car Talk) and 670 The Score (for baseball) I gave up on all radio stations years ago. I can only make it for one or two songs before any station starts playing crap. Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles make me want to smash my radio.

There are loads of rechargeable iPod docks with speakers available for less than $50. The sound quality is surprisingly good on many of them (and probably better than the quality of whatever is stock in a police cruiser).

Wow, so Chicago basically only has pop and rap music on its radio? Talk radio? Isn't that what AM is for?

Q101 wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.. it was one of my presets. Good thing I have an AUX because I listen to my ipod more than the radio. Its just good to once in a while a hear a song that you've never heard before and add it to your mp3 collection.

So long Tingle!
