Default chicago hotel

Im planning a trip to chicago and i have been looking around for an affordable hotel near downtown. I have found one called Congress Plaza Hotel thats affordable and its on Michigan Ave and W Van Buren St. Is this a good area? If not does anybody have any hotels they could reccomend? How much is public transportation there and what are your options? Thanks!

I didn't know there was such thing as an affordable hotel downtown, but it doesn't get much more downtown than that. The location is fine, and the building looks fine from the outside. I've never seen the inside.

That's one block from my school.

If you found an affordable hotel at Michigan and Van Buren, you either got the deal of the century or you have a liberal notion of what constitutes affordable. In either case, you found a great area to stay at a great(?) price.

Yep, the regular workers are on strike. I have no idea how that's affecting the hotel stay, but be prepared.

The strike has been going on for several years. I would guess that other than possibly a few picketers you'll hardly even notice. I suppose it's possible that their strike is being effective in reducing demand for the hotel, hence your affordable price, but if they were having too much of a negative effect I would think the hotel would work to meet the picketers' demands.

All depends on what people consider affordable....but as I have said before on here....many business hotels offer great deals on priceline and the like downtown.....for $100 per night on weekends.. 4 star hotels....and several of them.
