I need to know, do you people really eat hot dogs with tomatoes and pickles? I ask because it sounds absolutely terrible to be quite honest. As a Virginian I prefer my hot dogs with chili or ketchup/mustard. What sparked this question was that commercial about the hot dogs from different parts of the country which I'm sure you've all seen. Just to put down NY cause I know the two cities have somewhat of a rivalry, I think a hot dog with sauerkraut is just as repulsive. But seriously, tomatoes and pickles?

Also, how do you like them cooked? Boiled? Grilled? Pan fried/seared?

I like mine grilled, grills are really big in the South.

Yes, ketchup on a hotdog is gross. That's what mustard is for!

There is more than pickles and tomatoes on a Chicago style dog, and it's the whole combination of toppings that make it tasty.

For the record my favorite hotdog toppings are chile and coleslaw.

My husband eats hot dogs the traditional Chicago way each and every time we have hot dogs (which isn't too often) minus the bright green relish, but he still does use relish. If we could find the bright green stuff locally, I am sure that would be on the hot dog as well.

Mustard and relish, sometimes with tomatoes.

35th St. Red Hots

I like the chili dog with cheese from Portillo's.

Agree w/ OP. Even if I live here for the rest of my life: Chili and mustard til the day I die.

However, a real Maxwell St. Polish...mmmm....that is a different story.
