I would like to know if one of these blocks in Bucktown would be better to live on regarding to safety for girls in their later 20's. If walking morning & night & if transportation is close by. They are the 1800 block of N. Hoyne or 1600 block of N. Paulina. If there are any other blocks on streets that may be better, I'd appreciate the suggestions. I apologize if I am in the wrong section to be posting in.

I used to live in the 1800 block of n hoyne and never had any problems. However, Wabansia ave (where there are many nice mansions) had a string of robberies a few years back.

I prefer the Hoyne location. I wouldn't call 1600 N Paulina particularly dangerous, but there's a Citgo right there that used to attract some undesirables (including quite a few ladies of the night). My experience is a couple years old now, but I kind of doubt that's changed.

A woman would feel safer anywhere if she carried a can of mace in her purse.

I walk up this stretch (From North and Paulina to Cortland) pretty often in the evening hours with a fairly expensive guitar in hand and have never had any issues. I'm a white male around 5'10" and 200 pounds and am used to using the "Don't F with me" walk that urban living requires, but honestly, I can't recall a single time that I've encountered/crossed paths/or even seen a person that could be vaguely considered threatening in my travels. Maybe living in Humboldt Park (and being around it's cast of "Characters") has jaded me, but I find that area in Wicker Park/Bucktown to be as about as non-threatening as Chicago can be outside of Lincoln Park.

I walked through the area frequently with my SO with no concerns whatsoever, even when it was very late, but I would have been uncomfortable to do it alone -- less so on say Saturday because it's much more crowded, but on weeknights it got sparse and definitely somewhat sketchy. I wouldn't entirely rule that location out, but I think the Hoyne location is at least somewhat safer for a single woman.
