And if you plan on going to either one make sure you wear a bulletproof vest...no really wear one

My, ain't we judgmental? Once again, this thread is not about me, a person who has lived north and south. The fact is that the south has much to offer and some here are unaware of it. My experience is different than most (on this forum!) and may be useful for others to know of it.

Myself, I take part in activities in the north now and then, just not too often. My comfort zone? I go where I want and I've been all over the city and state.

Neither is it on the nightlife front, though I will say I love the Cove Lounge(and I like it EVEN MORE than Jimmy's. don't ask me why). And as for transit, that's what the #6 express bus, Metra Electric(don't forget you also can use it to go to SE side points on the South Chicago branch, or on Monday through Saturday use the Blue Island branch to go towards the Blue Island area, and transfer to the Rock Island train), and the South Shore Line are for.

The only time I would suggest anyone do that(#55 Garfield to 55th/Garfield Red Line 'L, then take the train north/south from there, or vice versa) would be late at night, when nothing else is running. I've had to do that late night commute before to leave Hyde Park(after visiting a friend), and I was fine.

The last #6 leaves downtown at 12:30 am every night, so plan accordingly. I've been on the red line to Garfield later than that but I would advise one to avoid the Green Line after 9 pm.

I think the kitchen may be better at Jimmy's than at the Cove, but I'm not sure of that. As for nightlife, for the professorial set, live jazz for free in the Q Club on Friday nights. Don't expect any unattached females.
