Could you please help me, fairly recent transplant here.

1. is it safe to walk in loop area late at night (if so, how late?)

2. I notice it is very unsafe once you are south of cermark. Would you advise to stay away from there? Also some concern west of Western (pulaski)?

Thanks

1.) It is safe 24/7 there

2.)A)If you are not a city person or don't fit in, you might get scared south of Cermak
2.)B)Pretty much anywhere west of western is ghetto. south of like Chicago ave. to who knows where.

You gave to broad of an area.

Western to Pulaski is like what?? 3 miles?

You know the old advertising slogan, "A million people can't be wrong?"

Well, at least a million people live south of Cermak and west of Western.

Both the University of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology are south of Cermak. Also, Midway Airport is both south of Cermak and west of Western. O'Hare is west of Western. McCormick Place Convention Center, off and on the largest convention center in the world, depending on the status of various expansions, is south of Cermak.

In a city with a population bigger than some countries there are going to be bad parts, but eliminating basically 2/3 of the city's geographical area is just absurd. I mean, seriously, use your head.

Dangerous south of Cermak? I go down there all the time, there are hunderds of thousands of people living in very safe areas.

Bridgeport, Hyde Park, Beverly, the areas around Midway, etc. etc.

Chicago has unsafe areas, but a large majority of the people in the city live in decent safe areas. Crime in Chicago is infamous, but on the ground most people aren't living their lives constantly worrying about safety.

Most any transplant is going to be moving into a safe area without even putting a ton of thought into the process.
