I live in Lincoln Park in zone 143 parking. I have a residential sticker and never give much thought to where I'm parking, but in helping a guest try to find parking when I was out of guest passes I noticed that one street near me only had zone parking signs on one side of the street. Does that actually mean that the other side is open parking? Or is the lack of signs just an oversite?

Specifically, I'm speaking about Bissell, the couple of blocks south of Armitage. The side that did have signs was only zoned from 6pm-12am, not all night like on the other blocks I'm used to. If anyone knows about this area specifically, where there is open/non-zoned parking near there, or who I can contact to find out that would be a great help. I've been searching online with no luck.

The parking zone locator below indicates that Bisell below 1800 is not zoned:

It would be a good idea to call your local ward office (43rd ward) or stop by to get a definitive answer.

If one side of a street is zoned or metered while the other side is not, this usually means that particular stretch of street is a ward boundary and that the respective aldermen have different views on the need for zoned/metered parking.

hmm, I never thought about it in terms of the ward angle, but that would make as much sense as anything.

specifically, 143 is one of the oldest & largest zones I'm aware of, it ends where zone 383 starts at Diversey so I always assumed it was a zip code thing (14 vs 57), and tangentially perhaps a Lincoln Park - Lake View thing.

here's 383:

it's not the whole ward, so I'm not really sure where they came up with that east-west demarcation.

back to 143, other reasons one side of the street might be zoned but not the other is when you have a public space like a park or school, they often leave those free and clear.
