Ideas on places to work in Chicago that don't cost you. (Lincoln: rent, month-to-month)

I'm looking for ideas on places in the River West / West Town / West Loop / Wicker Park / Bucktown / Lincoln Square and even Near North neighborhoods that allow a person some private space but that aren't hundreds of dollars a month or a yearl-long contract. In grad school, I had access to a private room in our school library - and it was fantastic! Surely there are some rooms like that in Chicago.

What about Newberry Library? Are there rooms available for month-to-month rent there? Or even just first-come first serve each day?

What about Chicago Parks Field houses? Any private rooms to use in any of those on the north or west sides?

Coffee shops are nice in that they're cheap ($2-3/day), but they aren't private, and usually music is distracting to work phone calls.

And if you're actually conducting business, why not spring for a few hundred dollars a month if you don't want to work from home?

If you're a startup, you could look into one of the local incubators, such as Excelerate Labs.
