End of February tends to be quite cold and often snowy, as the moisture is creeping back into the air. However, this winter has been VERY mild and light on snow, so you may get a lucky break.

And I disagree with Chet about avoiding public transit. Riding the CTA is a decent way to get an overview of city neighborhoods rather than just driving straight to your destination, and will give you a realistic sense of what it's like to be carless in winter--delays and crowding and dirtiness, all. If you find it too objectionable, you'll know to avoid choosing an apartment where you're forced to rely on public transit.

Normally I would prefer to have my own vehicle when traveling but with this being a quick 3 day visit it seems impractical. Cost is a major factor for me and with getting in Tuesday afternoon, at school all day Wednesday and leaving Thursday afternoon, it just doesn't seem worth it, but thanks for the suggestion. Now when I go back in the spring/early summer looking for housing, that will probably be a different story, lol. I'll definitely check out the WTTW link and see what's out there. I'll also be prepared to bring my gloves and a hat, lol.
