Not what you think.

I had an excellent experience this morning with a helpful CPD officer. Around 7:30, I recieved a call from my condo's front door callbox. We've been getting alot of early morning deliveries, so I thought nothing of it and buzzed the door open. A couple minutes later, there was a knock at the door. The officer had come up to ask me to move my car, as there was some gas line work about to start on the street I was parked on. He must have looked up my address from my license plate, took the time to ring up and when I didn't answer, took the elevator up to my condo to ask. He was very courteous. I expected to see a ticket on my windshield when I arrived, but nothing. He avoided me getting towed, that's for sure. I didn't get his name, but I would like to somehow relay his professionalism, courtesy and helpfulness to someone. Hopefully it will get to him somehow.

Send an actual letter to the person in charge of his precinct.
It will then go in his permanent record.

The officer will never even hear about the 311 phone call. I agree with Tenzo, send a letter and maybe a copy to your alderman.

Thanks everyone. I called 311 to start, they asked me where the incident occurred and transferred me to the correct district station. Unfortunately, when I called there, the detective that picked up was not too helpful. Since I didn't know the officer's name or badge, he gave me the impression it wouldn't matter if I gave feedback or not (which I disagreed with). I haven't had time to call back to talk to someone else, but I did find this site : City of Chicago Independent Police Review Authority to file a complaint or compliment online (which I did).

Take home message - make sure to get the officer's name or badge if you need to leave feedback

As a Police Officer I have to say that that is very nice of you. Often times all we get are complaints but the good experiences rarely go reported. When we actually do get a "good guy" letter from a citizen it really is appreciated. I would still go with writing a letter direct to a Commander at the District he was from. IPRA I wouldn't view as being reliable. Sometimes an old fashioned letter actually gets better results than emails or phone calls. Yes, most PD's are stuck in the stone age. Ha.

How nice! I thought this was going to be a rant. Thanks for spreading some good cheer. I think the letter is a great idea.
