You know there's a "public transit" option on GoogleMaps, right?

2135 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647 to 1125 W Loyola Ave, Chicago, IL 60626 - Google Maps

If you insist on doing it via the 'L' then walk a couple of blocks north on Milwaukee to California. You will see the tracks. Board the train there. Take a train toward downtown: the signs on the train say "Forest Park" not "O'Hare."

Get off the train at Jackson. In the middle of the platform, there is a stair case going DOWN. Go down the stairs and go up at the other end of the tunnel. Board a northbound Red Line train: the signs say "Howard" not "95th." Keep going until you get to the Loyola stop. You won't have to pay another fare to change trains.

If it were me, and it wasn't late at night, I would walk 2.5 blocks north on Rockwell to Fullerton. Don't cross Fullerton. Wait for an eastbound 74 Fullerton bus and take it to the red line station just past Sheffield. I would board a northbound Red Line train (signs say "Howard") there and get off at the Loyola stop.

To help you keep track of where you are, here is a list of stations on the Blue Line (the one that runs near the theater):

And here is a list of stations on the Red Line (the one that has the Loyola stop):

All El, not bus? Take blue line South to Jackson where you can transfer to Red Line North to Loyola. A little over an hour. The portion of the El that is underground is not called "subway" by most people, but there is no way to stay "above ground" unless you WALK quite a long way to red line.

Don't mind a bus? Walk about 3 blocks up Rockwell to Fullerton.Take 74 bus east to Fullerton. Take redline to Loyola. Should take less than an hour if you can walk fast...

You understand, of course, that the CTA calls its entire trains system (both elevated and subway) the 'L'. If you want to avoid the subway too, there is no way to get there without also taking a bus (or a long walk).

billiken, on the Google maps public transportation feature, you'll see a number of "suggested routes" listed on the left-hand side of the screen, so you can check out multiple options for reaching your destination, rather than only the one that Google determines to be the shortest. In this case, the third option on the list is the all-El (and subway) option that you were looking for. Here it is:

2135 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647 to 1125 W Loyola Ave, Chicago, IL 60626 - Google Maps

As you can see, it's very straightforward. You just walk a few blocks from the Congress Theater to the Blue Line stop at California and Milwaukee (although it's actually almost as close to walk the other direction to the next stop at Western and Milwaukee instead). Then you just ride the Blue Line downtown, change for free to the Red Line at the Jackson stop, and then ride the Red Line all the way back north to Loyola.

If it's a late-night trip I suggest you take a taxi.

For that trip you have to take either an underground train or a bus, you have no choice. Strange request.
