Default Might be moving to Chicago, some questions

I have an interview next week with a firm located in the Fulton River District. I'm curious where would be the best locations to live if my salary was around 38,000 starting. I would be living alone for 6-8 months then my fiance would be moving in and also getting work. I would prefer to be using mostly public transportation but I do have a car. A studio apartment does not bother me but if a one bedroom was in the realm of possibility it would be nice. Thanks for any information!

Default Need more info to help you out.

What type of rent are you looking to pay?
Will your fiance be helping with rent also when she moves in?

Parking anywhere for a day is outrageous anywhere in Chicago.

If I may make a few suggestions to you:

1. Figure out what type of rent you can afford.

2. Go the website of "The Reader". It is a local paper/website that lists apartments for rent.

Apartments and Rentals | Real Estate | Chicago Reader Classifieds

3. Learn the CTA Train lines to check how close an apartment is to the trains.

Know that most apartments in Chicago do not include utilities.
The closer you live to "downtown", the more expensive things will be...e.g. rent, parking.

Check out the crime statistics of a neighborhood before signing a lease.

Check out registered sex offenders in the area.

Good luck!
