I never understand all the anti-gun zealots. Most of the arguments are so off base. I'm a Police Officer and I (and most other Officers) believe in responsible gun ownership in the home and a common sense approach to CCW. I too don't want this further dragged off topic, I'm just always amazed when radical anti-gun views are aired from typically a misunderstood and misinformed position.

Apparently if one is in IL with a firearm or other weapon it is a good idea to observe both the IL Criminal Code and the Federal Wildlife Code, also.

Well,
I am a bit confused by the literature

At one portion it states the weapon needs to be broken down and near the end it states different.

Government literature

This is the link I posted earlier that somehow is being overlooked. The gun does NOT have to be broken down.

http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/1-154.pdf

The other link provided by Linicx was from when Ryan was Gov. Just a tad outdated. But even in the old literature it does not say it needs to be broken down. How are people believing it says it does?

I think people are taking "broken down" too literally. They don't mean the gun has to be disassembled into its component parts or something. They just mean the clip has to be removed.

After taking the 5 hour CFP training course, I'll let you know what the instructor, a cop himself, says about how "broken down" the gun has to be and whether or not the magazine has to be away from the gun components.

Well that makes sense.
I was thinking the whole hand gun had to be dismantled.

The people I talked to are real, uniformed, working cops. They all said the same thing. Broken down (clip removed) no shell in chamber, cased and not in reach of driver or passengers. Ammo should not be in reach of driver or passenger.

I would say in courtroom showdown the Federal Code will prevail. But the bottom line is this... if you ignore the law and get caught the firearm and components is seized and their may be a fat fine attached to it.

If I bought a gun and wantedto bring it home to Illinois, I would err on the side of caution.

Probably good advice!
