Default Getting into Chicago...

I have friends south of Chicago in Monmouth, IL. They will be coming up for one day just to visit. If possible they would like to avoid renting a car. What is the best way for them to get to the city (downtown) without a car? They would be leaving probably around 7 or 8 am and staying until about 8 or 9 in the evening. Thanks!

Actually I found out that they can ride Amtrack...and for the record, my mistake, Monmouth is more west than south. But thanks!

Okay, so unfortunately the Amtrak schedules aren't exactly what my friends are looking for since they would like to stay past 6 pm. Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Aurora to downtown on the Metra (appx?) This would be on a weekday. Thanks!
