Where to stay while in Chicago?
With six kids, it's very limited. We found good rates at the Lombard / Oakbrook Hotel, but we have no idea if Lombard is in Chicago, a burb, or what? Will it take us forever to get to downtown Chicago? Is it safe? Itasca? Input? Ideas?

It will take you forever to get to downtown from Lombard unless you travel before 6 am or after 6 pm. Try for closer-in facilities.

Lombard is very safe, but you are looking at atleast a 1 hour drive into Chicago (could be 1 hour more or about 20-30 min less) depending on traffic. You can check out the metra regarding taking a train in, but you will be spending a lot of time traveling.

The Courtyard by Marriott in Wood Dale has complimentary shuttle service to and from the Wood Dale Metra train station. From there into downtown on a train is about 40 minutes.

Lombard is safe, but its out west a ways (about 30 miles west of downtown Id imagine). Itasca is a bit closer I think, but still out a ways. If you stay in Itasca, I recommend the Wyndham, its a nice medium-priced hotel right next to the highway.

Why not stay in the city? Tons of familes stay in the city....unless for some reason you need to stay way out somewhere. If I had a choice, even with the kiddies, it would be in a walkable area near Michigan Ave, River North...etc...
Some websites offer some deals.
