Chicagoland
Is it worth living in Chicagoland? I heard there's a lot of racism (and the cops are racist, too), it's dirty, lots of traffic, and it's expensive to live there.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind. So what would you like from us?

You have to admit: No one lives in Chicagoland.

Where did you get that preposterous hypothesis? Did Steve tell you that, perchance?
Steve.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with this girl that Chicago is a righteous craphole. So it seems our sources match. Id advise establishing a 100 mile radius and staying far away. Lest you get pulled over by a racist cop in a traffic jam on an ozone action day and thrown in a unkempt overpriced prison.

A lot of racism? I guess more than many other areas in the US.
Dirty? For a big city it is average I guess. The downtown is clean, but some areas can get rather bad, esp. around Englewood and sadly enough the area that surrounds U of C looks more like a third world country.
Lots of traffic? OH YA. Don't even listen to people who are so pro-Chicago on here that live in Never Never land who go on about the fact that there is little to no traffic. There is traffic and to be honest after driving all over the country, our traffic is about the worst I have ever seen. While LA is worse, but not by much, at least they have 12 lane freeways all over vs. our 4-6 lane expressways and tollways we have to drive on and no other city has the sheer number of trucks/semis on all of their streets like we do grinding all the roads to a crawl. We are America's transportation hub so it is understandable why there are so many trucks going through here all the time, but it is too bad road planners never thought of that though when they were designing the roads.
Expensive? This is a tough one. Lincoln Park and downtown itself, yes, very expensive. Other areas like the south side and maybe the burbs, then no its not bad at all. Our gas though is the highest in the country though .

serenity now
yea, hyde park is such a bad neighborhood. and of course 12 lane freeways slicing through the downtown core are the answers to all our problems. lets see, you praise LAs expressways, and at the same time remark that their traffic is worse. what am i missing here.

All of that is true, but then again where in America are you going to get away from racist dirty cops and traffic jams? You'd have to leave the country to avoid those things. So if you're thinking about moving to Chicago, come on.

HUH? I don't think I've ever seen one single such post in the Chicago forum, and I'm one of the most active people here. Who has said "there is little to no traffic" in Chicagoland?

I think the most people have ever said is that there is less traffic than LA or NYC. Less doesn't equal "little or no." It's still not good. BUT if the city is worth it, you can deal.
