Hotel near train into downtown
Hello All:
I'm looking for advice, we need a medium priced hotel near a train line to downtown. We will have a car and can drive from the hotel to the train line.
We plan to visit the museums at Grant Park and catch the Cubs one night. We also are going to the Museum of Science & Indurtry, but we might drive there if trains are not a good option.
Staying downtown is too expensive, we need two rooms. Anyplace that is clean and quiet will work.
Thanks,
Henry in Seattle

check around either midway or ohare airport. Both will be close to trains. Midway hotels may require you to take a shuttle to airport however

If you're set on taking a commuter train into downtown, try Arlington Heights, Oakbrook or other suburban offerings through expedia, hotels dot com or other discount service. Remember that when you exit a commuter train (as opposed to the el) you will still be about a half mile to a mile from the downtown attractions.

It looks like Arlington Heights is an hour by train and Oakbrook is 45 minutes from downtown. They both end up on Canal St, isn't that Union Station, just west of the Loop?
Also, are there any closer in suggestions? Sorry to nit pick, but the closer the better, price being the limiting factor.

What is your price range? Also, I would recommend pricelining a hotel room.... You name your price, star quality and area and can get some great deals (worth a try!)

I would like to keep the room rate under $100, since we need two.
Priceline wouldn't work for us because we need each room to have two beds and one room will have three people in it.
I found a 3br 1ba furnished apartment near Lincoln Park for around $215 a night. It's a couple miles from the lake and Wrigley Field and near the trains to downtown. We might go with that, anyone have any thoughts on that area?

you can stay south for about one hundred a night. Calumet park and Blue Island have standard midline hotels like Ramada Inn and Holiday inn express around the area of 127th and Ashland. The rock Island Metra and Metra electric line have stations only a few minutes away by car.

You said that you're going to have a car... does this place in Lincoln Park include off-street parking for that car? If not, you could have a bear of a time trying to find a place to park it around there. If parking is included, I don't see any downside to staying there, except for the logistics of 5 people sharing 1 bathroom.

Hello All:
Thanks for the ideas, we went with the Lincoln Park apartment. It included a parking pass and had good access to what we are interested in.
I'm thinking that for five people it would be best to drive to the Museum of Science and Industry. Any parking issues with that area?
