Bears are more "meaningful" to me, but maybe I'm getting old.

I understand completely.

I follow the NFL more from a sense of nostalgia; I hav a great passion for the NFL of the 1970s, esp the NFC battles involving the Bud Grant Vikings, the Tom Landry Cowboys, the Chuck Knox Rams and the George Allen Redskins ( didn't care much for the AFC-Steelers, Raiders, etc). At this point, I hardly care who wins NFL games any more. I pull for the Packers in a limited way, but I certainly don't lose any sleep over them.

Hockey has more interest for me now, and baseball games for the Cubs or White Sox are fun to attend ( not much interested in the Red Sox, even though they're right down the street from work; they dominate sports conversation ad nauseum around here).

Growing up, the first year I was old enough to remember following football was the 85 Bears and all I can remember is just how good, brash, and dominant they were. But just for one year. I didn't get into basketball until later but the first NBA finals I watched was Bulls Lakers. So yeah I got lucky.

We also have Evan Lysacek, the gold medal figure skater and Shanie Davis the speed skater. So that's pretty cool!

Bears suck and only old people care about them.
They are not legendary. Like the bulls.

Ah, to be 22, and not remember Abe Gibron and Bobby Douglass...

My generation talks about the 90s bulls and the current bulls.
My favorite is those occasions when the Bears DO do well in the post season and every news show has a live camera in the bars during and after the games and they're constantly interviewing 20-something kids who proclaim "this is JUST LIKE 1985!!!". I always wonder - how do they know? 1985 was 27 years ago...

"Youth is fleeting and when it is gone you are old a long time", so sayeth the Sages. .

There is no way to logically compare a Jonathon Apple and a Naval Orange just like there is no way to compare the Bears to the Bulls or the Cubs/Sox to the Blackhawks. There are five Pro Sports Teams that call Illinois home: Baseball, Basketball, Football and Hockey. There is no league, no equipment, no arena, and no one kind of Hail Mary pass or last minute basket that is a "be all" game changer across all four sports. The only thing in common amongst these five pro teams is Chicago.

Was Pat better than Mike? Who cares? If you want to argue something meaningful try Jordan vs Bird vs.Magic. These were the three dominate "air machines" in the 1980s - the best of the best. The three that single handedly brought world attention to US basketball. By the time Jordan came to power in Chicago, everyone in the world knew who he was, and when he was finished they all knee two American English words "Jordan" and "Chicago. "

Larry Bird: was a 12-time All-Star, was a member of the Olympic Gold Medal winning "Dream Team", was named to the All-NBA First Team nine times, and was named MVP twice ('84 and '86).

In a word, the '80s was an exciting time (to watch games and the coaches).

I think the legacy of the '85 Bears also suffers from a number of factors, the main one being their inability to win another one. In many ways Ditka can also be a hard guy to like - he basically wrecked the team's chances for a repeat by driving Buddy Ryan out. The Bears may have been better off keeping Buddy and losing Ditka. After his heart attack he was pretty much done.

While the Bulls had some drama (and egos), Jackson did a good job of keeping things together and delivered consistently.
