Lots of negative posts about the South Side here. There are some very nice areas close to downtown, though, particularly University Village, which has plenty of affordable condos for rent, is only a short walk to the west loop and is protected by UIC police.

I think anyone with an ounce of familiarity for Chciago knows that the South Side has many nice areas along with the poverty and blight it is famous for. So you can sort out the morons quite easily on this forum by finding the ones who say overly simplistic things like "The South Side is Terrible!". Reality is never so simple.

Hmm.. Bad areas of Chicago just kind of pop up all over as you roll down any street, except downtown/Loop. Just move o the suburbs like the rest of us. Chicago has been getting thuggy for years. Go live in Lake Forest with the Apollo 13 guy!
