Default Any waiters or waitresses here?

I am planning on moving to Chicago in about a month and a half. I am 25, approximatly 6 years of being a server at restaurants (5 of those with the same one)...so I will probably stay a server while I attend school there.

Anyone know what I could probably budget for an apartment on a servers pay? Any current servers or anyone who knows one know what I could expect as far as income goes?

Thanks!

A little more info might be in order. What sort of places do you have experience? Would this be fine dining or casual restaurants? I've never been a server here, but I know people who have scraped by on a couple hundred bucks a week and people who have made SERIOUS money at some of the fine dining joints. (Over a grand in tips some very busy nights?) I know plenty of people who work 4-5 nights a week and can afford all the basics and still have a bit leftover.

I am more experienced with casual/upscale...not necessarily fine dining.

I am just hoping that I could budget about $750 month for a place...does that seem reasonable?

Reasonable. I know people who have done it/ do it. It really just depends on where you work. Even the non-fine-dining set can often manage that.
