From what I have read these two loacation would be seperate but I am not for sure.

Thanks for the information on googles data center I did not realize they had rural locations.

Should have stated the sales staff and creative people are in urban areas Like Chicago, NY , San Fran.
I very much agree. Makes me excited

They are HQ 'd in California and I would never see them leaving their home base..

But a company like Google has to have offices in strategic locations.

Google is a fascinating company from their inception to where they are presently.

They just never seem to stop evolving.

They wouldn't move from their home location because they are so close to other tech companies and schools like Stanford and Berkeley. Not only good for working with other companies but also the type of talent already in the area.

They are a fascinating company. I wouldn't mind working for them even though my current company is up there with them. The way they do things is more in line with how I and many others think.

They are very successful for a reason and if you are a tech geek at all who programs..you know the answer why. A lot has to do with the way they treat employees..apart from their talent.

There are a lot of large corporate hqs in the north and far north burbs. Vernon Hills, Libertyville, Riverwoods, etc... I know, when I look for a job it seems like they are ALL up that way and it is a pain to commute into that area too.

Looks as if they're in "advanced" talks with Merchandise Mart to lease out 500,000 sq feet of space, moving 3000 employees downtown. Sounds cool Also, they want MM to build a rooftop deck!

People say the inner city is dying a slow death, this goes to prove otherwise.

3000 jobs. Who's this mostly going to be? Young, single people with lots of disposable income.

I'm sure they could have gotten the space much, much cheaper in the burbs, but how much of their target employee demographic wants that?

My coworker used to work for Motorola with a lot of these people. He said a lot actually lived in the city and just commuted to the burbs by Metra because they were younger and wanted to live in the city.

For the ones who lived in the burbs, now they have an excuse to move to the city. Not only is that the case I'm sure for AT LEAST a few hundred of those 3000 people, but also now it will be added money in the way of food and drink purchases in the least at lunch to surrounding businesses in and near the Loop.

It will also be good, because another tech giant will be "right there," so it might even foster some easier partnerships IMO.

The point I'm making is that people who think urban living is a thing of the past is wrong.

This is an example of factors driving business into the city (even with the sky high taxes) and with rising energy costs and gas prices, no one wants to deal with heating and cooling a McMansion and burning 10 gallons of $5 a gallon fuel just to get to work.
