I stayed at Homewood Suites on Grand in the Mag Mile region last year while interviewing. (Chicago Hotels | Homewood Suites by Hilton® Chicago-Downtown | Chicago, IL )
The room I had was a suite, with a small kitchen complete with fridge, stove, microwave, and coffeemaker. The hotel has a full breakfast in the morning, and there's a pool. The room might seem more expensive than others, but you would save on meals by eating the included breakfast, having leftovers or food you buy from a store for one meal a day and snacks, and eating out only once a day.
The location is ideal-you're only a few minutes walk from shopping, and the hotel is about a block and a half from the red line stop. I didn't have a car, so I'm not sure what the parking rates are. But you could take the suggestions of others and leave your car near one of the airports and take transit into the city.

BTW,

There is a promotion coming where you can stay at country inns and suites and basically get paid to do it. Basically buy one night for about $80 and get 44,000 points. 44,000 points gets you 5 nights at some hotels like Radisson Orlando or almost 2 nights in paris or London. Don't need the points, I know plenty that would buy them.

Only issue is that you would have to keep checking in and out and changing the name of the roomholder as you only get 1 bonus.

The promo is so attractive that I will probably head out to the burbs and check into hotels just to rack up some points.

I did, and I cited them. Did you think I just made up random numbers?

I have gotten a good hotel a few times at Priceline for sixty some bucks. Once I got Embassy suites on State. I would recommend staying somewhere in the city. There is really nothing much midway. I think giving them a city experience will be good. I would nix the Ohare hotels its really not "chicago" and the L ride will be a pain. If you go to Priceline and name your own price you can get good deals. its scary because you can not pick. If you check Millenium Park or the Mag Mile river north and three stars you will not get a bad place.

I always, always name my own price on priceline and score some smoking deals. While it's true that you can't pick your place, you're more than likely to get something satisfactory if you choose the places ToriaT is talking about. My wife and I get the itch to have a fun night downtown every so often, and we've NEVER been disappointed. I've stayed in some really nice hotels for so little money, it felt like I scammed them.

No, I think you were quoting numbers you had seen prior. I guess some dates are just $50 less expensive in june than others huh?

No, I was quoting numbers I had just looked up for tonight, as an example, exactly as I stated. From post #20:

I'm not sure where the confusion arose or why it bothers you that I found different numbers than you did, but let's get back to the thread. This will be my last post explaining what I've already explained.

Okay just for you...I just looked up right this instant on Hotwire NUMEROUS dates in june of all hotel levels (1 through 4.5). These are the exact dates AND prices that are quoted for 1 room, 2 adults + 2 children. Do the queries for yourself if you don't believe me on any of these prices if you think I'm seeing random bull****.

June 8-13: $237, $253, $295, $292,
June 11-16: $75, $256, $222, $251, $296
June 13-18: $231, $120, $225, $170, $75, $241, $187, $257
June 15-20: $220, $120, $183, $171, $75, $187, $256
June 15-18: $223, $117, $224, $164, $75, $193, $262,
June 18-22: $216, $163, $125, $176, $236, $116, $109
June 22-27: $212, $120, $185, $164, $75, $177
June 25-30: $202, $166, $123, $163, $75, $221, $236, $177, $139

That's 8 different dates, and out of 53 unique date-hotel combos, only 6 of them were under $100 (2 star, most likely the Travelodge or Motel 6 near Grant Park). Other than that, there are a few for around $120 which IMO is a good deal, and a few for around $110 but I really don't see how you're magically seeing all these hotels for under $100 on Hotwire downtown. Oh, here's some screen grabs, since this is the internet and anybody can say anything. Oh, you can see on the left too how it's including hotels of all star ratings, and I'm sorting by lowest to highest price in each:

Nevertheless, apart from all this stupid bull**** we're going through...$110-$130 is a good rate for a downtown hotel.
