I am looking to finally move to Chicago in a few months, and I was wondering what people have heard about how the job market is trending in Chicago lately?

Looking at the unemployment stats that the BLS puts out for metro unemployment, Chicago's unemployment rate has risen to be the 5th worst unemployment rate in the largest metropolitan areas in March which is kind of concerning.

I am 27, just graduated at the beginning of the year with my BA in Geography and nearly a 4.0 GPA. Have about seven and a half years of experience working in a library, and about half a year experience doing GIS technican type work. I have a friend who moved to Chicago recently who is willing to let me stay at his place until I find a place to rent. I have plenty of savings, but I am only willing to stay for six months to find a job.

Do I have a good chance of finding a job that pays 30K-40K in six months?

I am uncertain of what field I will be able to get into, but am willing to try anything that is entry level and would allow me to eventually move up/and or broaden my skill set.

I don't know your industry all that well but landing a 30,000 to 40,000 dollar job within your timeframe and given your education should be feasible.

Though again a degree in geography is foreign to me

What type of field were you able to get into with it?
