not such thing in small towns in Iowa. Thats not what you'll find in a large city like Chicago or its suburbs. The closest thing you'll fins is farmer's market once a week, but I doubt you'll find there organic pesticide free.

Btw some chains like Jewel have some good shelves with some authentic ethnic products, mexican, chinese, polish etc. Or go to Aldi to get European products. And there are deli shops. While Hyvee does have them, Jewel is better at stocking more authentic ethnic origin products. More variety and better quality.

Also even Hyvee itself differs in locations. I found two Hyvee locations in one town, where in one side it had discounts and was cheaper than the other.

Do very very well, and ask for a change in shift in schedule as soon as the opportunity arises. Use some of your free weekday time well, and work more hours... or learn new stuff.... to get out of that schedule.
By overpaying in advance, I pay off principal balance faster and accrue less interests, not too mention the sooner I reduce debt to desirable level (below $20k) the better I will have better chance to afford a better mortgage or car in future.

Some students (I am one of them) accrue student loans by taking advantage of first year grants that do not get extended next year (at the end they made as business more money on me by charging tuition 3 years instead 2). After 1 year its possible but not easy to switch. Had I gone in my first 2 years to community college I would have saved a bit. Also don't live longer than 1 year in dorms, apartments are cheaper.

At least books are harder to scam with Amazon and other used books on market. Some book publishers push for new editions with some changes but fortunately professors are little flexible with older textbooks.

When I lived in Ames, for five years, there were a handful of independent food stores. Now, I realize Ames is one of the larger cities in Iowa at about 55,000 people, but you can find independent stores in some of the more populated areas of Iowa.

It's farm country for god's sake. I used to drive down to farm land from Minnesota when I was a kid. I could always find a vendor selling fresh fruit and vegetables in the back of their truck anyway.

Third shift sucks. I did it for about five months and that's four months too long. I wouldn't take the job unless there was an opportunity to eventually be OFF third shift.. If you refer to any daytime sleeping as "napping" then you definitely shouldn't take it. Your body will be messed up after all that napping.

However, for many people, especially people who don't have kids and aren't in school, second shift means staying up all night too. Because I mean, you wake up and go to work. And you don't go to sleep immediately after you get off - you enjoy the rest of your day/night. Second shift still doesn't do the same thing to your body that overnight shift does. You don't know how much it sucks until you've been doing it for some time..

how many hours a week did you do? did your job already come with opportunity to rotate or switch or did you have to ask/apply for alternative shift once you had enough.

I realize 3rd shift is awful. But I hope it will be somehow balanced that is only 26 hours and learn more / significantly get paid better than what I am currently doing in tech support. Right now I have daily shift but they put people on call. When your on-call week comes up, it sucks cause u may get calls at middle of the night everyday and still have to come to work during the day. And those calls often happen since they don't have AWS.

I still work there. But now I work both first and second shift, depending on the day. On rare occasion I might end up working one overnight shift. Like if someone calls off or if I agree to trade with someone cuz they me or them has stuff to do outside of work that day..

I voiced to my boss that I didn't like working this shift. And he eventually took me off it when he hired a new guy.
