When we were building the nuclear plant out in Braidwood we went to lunch at a tavern that had glasses of Drewery's draft for 20 cents (excellent beer). Put down 6 of those and 3 shots of VO and then back to building America's nuclear future.

Beers like Drewery's, Old Style, Pabst, Bud, Millers etc. are far more refreshing than heavier beers when you've been doing rigorous work in the heat. Maybe the growth of craft beers and heavier beers has something to do with so many modern American men doing sedentary work in air conditioned offices?

Hasn't Chicago already been overrun by food snobbery? Now we have to deal with beer snobs.

In my mind, these are all the best 'session' beers.

Session Beers, Defined - BeerAdvocate

Oddly, there is no better feeling than riding my bike home from work in the middle of July, back to my apartment with no A/C...and pounding a few PBRs. Very, very refreshing and easy to drink.

Cool, thanks. I didn't realize there was an actual term for the stuff I call "maintenance beer"! Learn something new every day.

I like PBR, yea I did not start drinking it until it was trendy and at my local 7-11.

For cheap beer it is really good, not everyone can afford designer beer.

As for the cubs-sox debate.. no need to beat a dead horse.

Seriously, leave the beer snobs on the west coast where they belong.

I'm not talking about the quality of PBR. That is purely, absolutely subjective. What I am talking about is how after 119 years they're still hanging their hat on that one ribbon they won in the 19th century. That, in my opinion, is more pathetic than the Cubs have ever been.

The only way the Cubs "win" this one is if they start advertising the fact they are World Champions.

"Hey guys! We're world champions! Yeah, for real. And even more realer, we're back-to-back champions! Remember that time 103 years ago when we won the World Series for the second time in as many years? Yeah... we're the champs."

That would trump anything PBR has done or could do.

I dunno. After fading into near obscurity, their comeback is actually pretty impressive (Nevermind that it was driven by ironic hipster cred) I mean, I don't know of many bars that don't serve PBR, but I couldn't tell you one that serves Icehouse.
The blue ribbon thing is more about brand recognition than depending on ancient accolades.

FYI:

Jewel has cases of 30 PBRs on sale for $11.99 right now. That's about three and a half cents per ounce of beer.

Whoop!

I drink PBR because it's the cheapest beer I can tolerate. I was an Old Style man when I first moved to Chicago, but then they "re-krausened" it which pushed the price point just out of my comfort range. While PBR is usually tolerable, try drinking one after anything from Three Floyds and you'll be lucky if you can keep it down.

As for the Cubs, well, I just watched them get destroyed by the Astros in Houston last week (in a stadium with far more blue than red, I might add). Getting shut out 8-0 by a team that is by all accounts just a really good AAA club is not something to be proud of. So it's a tie in my book.
