Buying is a last ditch effort but I just fear the dogs will be an issue when leasing /renting. I'll be up in a month to really get a better idea but until then the Internet is my best friend. As for my boyfriend, he's from a small texas town in the panhandle so he knows cold but it will be a big adjustment with snow. Knowing my luck my first Chicago winter will probably the coldest in forever ha . Thanks gobucks! I'm just ready to be there!

Just curious...did you ever find a solution to your problem. I'm looking for a place in Chicago with a Great Dane too. I'm willing to go to the suburbs though.

Burbs, for sure.

If you don't have any space for a large dog city life isn't ideal.

Along with landlord policies against them.

I disagree that large dogs necessarily need a large space. Dogs like Great Danes and English Mastiffs are total couch potatoes. My sister had an Mastiff in a 550 sq ft apt. She took a couple of walks a day and was fine. It's the little hyperactive dogs that need space to run around in or they'll drive you crazy. I own and live in a 3-flat and I'd MUCH rather have a big dog than a little yapper in my building. My neighbors have chihuahuas that don't shut up when they're outside. It'll be tough finding a place, I think you'll need to find a private owner rather than a property management company. Good luck with your search.

In Dallas everyone is large breed friendly, not the case in Chicago. I've found the Presidental Towers accept large dogs but so far that's all I've found in my search. I'm 24 and he is 29 (if that really makes a difference but we would like to avoid frat houses) and as far as budget we would like to stay under 2500. We're pretty open to ideas or suggestions if anyone knows of any communities, or good realtors / apartment locators / brokers.

Thanks guys!
I don't recommend Pres Towers. It's basically a crappy college dorm. Your boyfriend will be the oldest one in the building. Most of your neighbors will be douchebags.

Not a dog owner myself but there are pet friendly places around. I do see a lot of Great Danes too. Broaden your search beyond non-Red line neighborhoods.
