Of course I am. I rarely type something on these boards without a smile on my face. I laughed pretty hard the more I thought about that image i described.

Actually I bought a Mossberg 500 12 gauge pump for $150 (used) from a store across the street from the city boundaries. I hunt little birdies with it.

However, it does make a hellacious roar when I set it off. [And no, I am not one of those people who add to the pyrotechnics or New Year's Eve. The local constabulary officials have directional sound locaters which are quite good at identifying where shooting takes place.] I hope I never have to use it to scare someone.

I'm slogging through this one as well. My GF and I want to live in the Chicagoland area, especially Oak Park (which also has a handgun ban) for a while, but we're both handgun enthusiasts and would prefer to stay on the legal side of things if we can. I have my Dad's .38 service revolver I won't part with on any terms, as well as a couple of other sidearms I've put a little money into, enjoy using for recreation, and would rather not part with either.

I have a double-barrel, 12-ga "stagecoach" gun with a little bitty 16" barrel I can use for home defense, so that's not a problem, at least.

Just wondering, and a little off topic, but what has so many of you against guns? I don't understand why you wouldn't want to protect yourself, your property, and especially your family if some uninvited guest decides he wants to make entrance into your home uninvited. Believe it or not, but some people out there murder when in burglar situations. Happens all the time. Even worse off, but more rare, is the offender will kill the male and rape the wife or children.

Horrible acts of violence happen all the time, and I would at least want to be on par with the criminal in my own home in terms of weaponry. My pocket knife isn't going to help much, nor are my amazing karate skills when the criminal across the room has a gun pointed directly at me. And the police don't always make it in time to homes when you call them.

And on a further note, states with concealed carry laws, which means allowing people to carry concealed guns on them out in public, have lower murder rates than states such as Illinois and others that ban them. I wonder why that is?
