Down here in Dallas, and Texas in general its pretty common. It's big in Greek life at colleges as well. Walk around SMU and you'll find sperry's, nike dry fit shorts, and a north face.

Sometime about 10 years ago it began a transformation from a legit outdoor gear brand to an annoying preppy/yuppie/fraternity/sorority fashion brand. It seems to have reached full saturation with that crowd the past 3-4 years, meaning it will hopefully soon go out of style with them.
Definitely not just a Chicago thing.

In highschool I had no idea what Northface was. I went to college in Michigan and it was everywhere. Now I see it everywhere. I blame the MSU and UoM grads.

Yep. I'd also add that it's only in certain parts of Chicago that you see it everywhere. Primarily around college campuses and areas with a lot recent college grads.
