The violence in these communities will never go away. The only solution is to push them all out of the city through economic means. The culture of violence and ignorance in these communities is not going to change in any of our lifetimes. It all starts at home.

More than 50 percent of the homicides are related to the drug trade. I would guess probably even more.

I don't think it will ever end. You will always have people buying drugs, thus an illegal huge illegal drug market, and people killing each other over it.

No different than the Outfit during Prohibition.

I just don't think it's possible to operate a business like that without the imminent threat of violence. They kill each other over territories, threats of snitching etc., and if they weren't, the whole thing would come crashing down on their heads.

Exactly. Stuff like this is not anything new especially on these neighborhoods. Im not condoning shoothings and im not saying that people should just turn a blind eye to it but what more can people do? All these "stop the violence" protests and parades aren't going to do anything and they haven't done anything thus far. Only reason why other cities have had significant drops in crime is because of gentrification or simply people moving elsewhere.

You can go to cities such as Country Club Hills,Markham,Park Forest and see a drug deal or 2 and gang members roaming on corners. You can take a person out of the hood, but you cant take the hood out of them.

We're way beyond that point in Chicago. The police can help with crime, but they have a hard time PREVENTING the crimes. Doesn't help when the kids getting shot refuse to cooperate with the police at all, as they so often mention in the news reports. I blame the parents who let their children turn into these animals. Blaming the police isn't going to do anything in most cases except divert attention away from the heart of the problem.

Unfortunately(?) that's not a solution. It may help the city's numbers on paper to push people to the other side of the arbitrary city limit line, but it doesn't change the balance of poverty and crime in the metro area as a whole, or in our region or nation as a whole. As long as we have such an extreme level of poverty in the richest nation on earth, we're going to have violent crime. It's amazing that it's so much more rare than it used to be, actually.
