Hello,

What is the best way to deal with a vehicle for a few days in Lincoln Park? Its Parking zone 143, for what thats worth. Everything else on the City of Chicago parking website did not answer my questions.

I'm going borrowing a small pick up truck to move in and I would hope that it is not necessary to purchase a "city sticker" to leave it there for a couple nights. Is there any sort of grace period that is allowed for move-ins, or would I just need to purchase some guest passes? And if the guest passes are the way to go, where can they be purchased on a Sunday (July 1)? Would I need to order online?

Thanks in advance!

If it's just for a few nights, especially if it's not registered in the city, you should be fine.

You buy the guest passes ahead of time - just take a signed lease to either your new alderman's office or City Hall.

You won't need a city sticker for a couple of days. You would need guest passes though if you plan to park on a zoned street.

But your bigger issue is the pickup truck. If it has truck plates on it, you can't park it on most residential streets after 6pm (or sometime thereabouts). You also can't drive it on Lake Shore Drive or any street designated as "Boulevard," which includes Diversey Boulevard along the northern edge of Lincoln Park. So bottom line is, if it has truck plates, pay attention to the street designations to stay off of boulevards, move your stuff in, and find a non-metered commercial street to park it on (and watch out for rush-hour restrictions too such as "No Parking 4pm-6pm"). Probably a lot easier said than done.

On second thought, you can't even do this -- commercial trucks are not allowed to park on commercial streets any longer than necessary to load/unload equipment and surely you'll get a ticket if it's parked there for an extended period of time. I see commercial vehicles parked on comercial streets overnight all the time so I thought you could do that. I guess not.

See if you can pre-arranged an off-street spot to park on for a couple days.
