I don't think many people consider Humboldt Park part of the North Side.

I went to a Jesse Jackson Jr speech(Not the biggest Fan of him) but he made a good point, why does the Northside get EVERYTHING? A neighborhood will never get better if you dont put any opportunity into it.

The North Side has more yuppies hipsters etc. The South side is mostly middle/working/poor people as we all know. Although I wish there were more things happening out south but it would be hard to set up a fancy cafe in a neighbohood where there is little to demand for it. Before anything is done, the crime problem needs to be taken care of in alot of these south side neighborhoods (althought I don't see Englewood changing anytime soon just my thoughts).

It is true that a lot of people on the site totally disregard the rest of the city outside of the North Lakefront, but it is what it is.

I'd sell my North Side property in a heartbeat if I could straight up trade for a place off SOUTH 50th and Greenwood.

Nice straw man you've created for yourself there. First off, there are plenty of decent parts of the South Side, but as others have pointed out, many professionals want access to businesses that simply don't exist on the South Side.

Here's a hint: Until South Siders stop listening to people like Jackson, who focuses on what others have, and start focusing on when they, personally, can add to their community regardless of what others have, the South Side will never recover. I'm actually in favor of European style socialism, but it doesn't work there when people are more focused on getting things other people have instead of on doing what they want to do, and that attitude doesn't work here, either.

The parts of the South Side with issues didn't fail due to anything the North Side did or didn't do. It failed due to global forces. ANYONE - Jesse Jackson, or anyone else - who tells you that the South Side is suffering because of the North Side is both dumb and a LIAR, and is trying to steal your vote to enrich their own pocket and shouldn't be trusted. Communities that build big churches run by third-generation preachers are failed communities. Real churches aren't businesses you hand down from generation to generation, but that sort of thing is all too common in parts of the South Side.

Don't listen to anyone telling you that you'd be successful if it wasn't for the North Side or anything similar. People who say that are poisoning your mind. You have access to the tools you need to achieve a decent life. Use those tools and achieve for yourself first. Do that, and stay in your neighborhood as you make more money and teach others to do that same, and the South Side will turn the corner and be just as popular as the North Side. But as long as the South Side is stuck with "why can't we get those things" complaints, it will never have the tools to fully recover.

You're clearly trolling and just trying to ruffle some feathers. Bait not taken.

It just amazes me what some of these community areas tolerate. If I lived in, say, Roseland, I'd be on the phone with the PD so much, I'd be sending Christmas and birthday cards to all of the dispatchers. Use a garbage can. Don't let your parties go past midnight and if they do, move them inside. Get a group of neighbors together and pick up trash. Cut your lawn once a week. Quickly clean graffiti from your garage and don't leave the outline there. Call police when kids gather on the corner. It'll let 'em know you're watching them. If people would do these little things, which are free, it would make some of these areas 1,000 times better, and maybe then people would consider more neighborhoods in the City as viable alternatives.

The market is developed by the buyer/customer, not by government or other edict. The Northside of the city is popular because the people who live there or want to live there think it's a better place to live ... in comparison to the south side. Very easy to understand the preference. I'm on the North Side, but I'd consider living on the South Side once again. Not in Engelwood where I grew up, but a couple of other areas. Near South Side, Prairie Shores, Groveland Park, Hyde Park and a section of South Shore. I wouldn't live on the West Side, though. One of the challenges to improving the image/reality of the South Side is to substantially reduce the rates of crime, improve the quality/care of apartments and homes and greatly expand opportunities from larger retailers.

lol, It's the "Northside D**K Riders" fault that the southside has no demand for "sexy cafes".

Get out of here.

I do, and I think everyone I know who is familiar with Humboldt Park ... including persons I know who live there, consider it part of the North Side.
