My fiance will be going to UIC in the Fall and we're hoping to get an apartment together before he starts. We're on a budget and are both currently living in Elmhurst and this will be our first time living in the city and out of the western suburb area. We have know of some places, but would like some help. Any Ideas?

What is your budget? What size place are you looking for? What kind of neighborhoods do you like? Will you have a car? Do you want a more suburban environment (ex. down West in Oak Park/Forest Park/Berwyn) or is close/convenient best (right near UIC, or trendy west loop) or a little bit more commute with funkiness (Ukranian village) or high rise sitting living (south loop) etc....

We have a budget of $1000 a month for rent. We both want to live in the city and for uic to be as close as possible. We won't have a car.

Live near the taylor street area and walk to school. Look for streets such as flournoy, loomis, right around taylor and racine. there are some nice old buildings there and they are used to renting to students. quick commute to the loop too.
