Greektown restaurant suggestion (Athens, Union: home, restaurants, safe)

A friend from back home is at a conference in the suburbs, and he's coming into the city this evening to take me to dinner. He'll be arriving at Metra Union Station about 6 pm, and we'll have about 2 1/2 hours before he has to catch his train back.

I figured Greektown would be convenient to the train station, and offer food that isn't easy for him to find back home. But I don't know any restaurants there.

Could anyone suggest a place that is 1. Good 2. Quiet enough that we can talk 3. Possible to get a table on Saturday evening without a reservation and 4. we won't feel out of place if we aren't dressed up.

Athens is a pretty safe bet off Halsted. Typically has a nice vibe in the summer when they open the windows and have a patio

^^ Athena .. second the recommendation .. Pegasus, Greek Islands, Parthenon .. they're all good .. It is Saturday, so quiet might not be the most accurate description .. but, you can request different seating if it's not too crowded ..
Unfortunately, on of my faves, a Greek Cypriot place on Jackson just around the corner..has closed ..

I agree. They are all more or less the same and all good. I like Greek Islands a lot.

When I asked my Greek friend this same question, he said all of those restaurants are pretty good, but Greek Islands is the best. I've eaten there a couple of times and it was excellent.

absolutely Athena; you've been given some great advice. Best outdoor dining in the city. Lousy summer for outdoor dining, of course. Rodity's is another one of my favorites.

Santorini is likely to be quieter than most, and their quality, especially for seafood, is unmatched in my opinion. The only minus is probably that the outdor dining is not as great an option there: Pegasus' roof is probably the best for that; also Athena as mentioned. Rodity's is also excellent. Greek Isles is more of the total Greek family experience if that's what you are looking for.

Personally, my preference would be Parthenon.

does Pegasus serve full menu on their roof? for a long time they didn't...i believe it was drinks and appetizers (although admittedly that was pretty far back).

I'm a fan of Greek Islands, though as others are saying there are many very similar places that are all good.
