Once upon a time ... Chicago had two professional football teams. That "other" team is now in Phoenix. Still owned by someone who was a Chicagoan. A second team could be popular/successful in Chicago ... depending upon the financial investment required. Why not?

Yep. If there was a good NFL team in Chicago I don't think people would care what it's called. What we probably can't support, though, is a second mediocre/bad team.

I would watch a Chicago AFC team, even if it's transplanted from another city like Jacksonville. Is it likely? No.
I can see a suburban stadium in Arlington Heights, Addison area or even Naperville drawing fans who prefer a suburban location over schlepping to and from the Space Ship on the Lake.

Yes please. Add a new team. It'd be nice to have a second team around here.

I honestly don't see this happening. Chicago is 100% Bears and there are other cities which would be considered before Chicago.

If the Bay area with half the population can support two teams, I am confident that Chicago can, too. And I'm tired of da Bears being perennial underachievers.

Of course there's a huge difference between setting up shop in a major market that doesn't have a franchise and horning in on an existing franchise's market.

Well the Bay area has a built-in division/rivalry that makes it a more logical two-franchise market. Even so, the region is barely supporting two teams. The 49ers dominate regional loyalty and the Raiders are basically an afterthought to just about anyone outside of Oakland proper. As a result the Raiders are barely making a go of it in Oakland and there's perennial talk of them moving back to L.A. If (when?) they do, that will almost certainly be the last time the Bay Area has two NFL franchises; there won't be room for another one to move in and take the Raiders' place. It was easier to drop in a second franchise there 50 years ago when it didn't take nearly as much money to set up and operate a team. There's no way it would happen in the Bay area today, and I doubt it can happen here either.

I don't see how adding a 2nd team for a sport that plays 8 home games a year could possibly upgrade Chicago.

Yes, but like Chicago's baseball teams, loyalty was largely based upon North Side vs. South Side. Also, despite this, the Cardinals were always Chicago's 2nd team. A new Chicago team would share Soldier Field with da Bears, they wouldn't get their own stadium.

Let's be realistic, it's a Bears town. Sure, EVENTUALLY a 2nd team COULD find a niche in this city, but they'd never be more popular than the Bears unless they were CONSISTENTLY more successful. Even then they probably wouldn't be (case in point the White Sox are consistently more competitive than the Cubs but only enjoy 2nd class status save for the year after they won the World Series).

Also, why would the NFL want to split revenue in a market they already dominate when they could get new merchandise sales in a brand new city? I have no real objection to Chicago getting a 2nd team, but what's really the point or the logic? Either way, it won't happen.
