It's not in Chicago proper, but has anyone tried Burt's Place? I've seen it featured on Food Network a couple of times and people were raving about it, but you gotta jump through hoops to get it (Call at least a day before to order, even for carry-out) so just wondering if any of you have tried it and did it live up to the hype?

Burt's is basically an offshoot of Pequod's -- if I understand correctly, Burt is the original owner of Pequod's. If you've eaten at Pequod's you get an idea of what Burt's is like, though of course the Burt's loyalists will swear up and down that Burt's better. Having never eaten there, I guess I'll take their word for it.

ETA: Here's an article on the Burt's/Pequod's connection: Burt Katz: Pizza pioneer Katz logs four decades of crafting pies - Chicago Tribune

Nobody in chicago makes their pizza harder to procure than Burt. It's pizza by appointment only. The pie is outstanding because Burt is a pizza chef not a pizza cook. He cooks by method and will not be rushed, so you arrive, are served within minutes and then you leave. The crust is slightly charred and the toppings are as fresh and tasty as you are gonna find. Also it is not quite as thick as most deep dish pizzas.

From everything I've seen myself, and read about, Lincoln Square is a pretty good place to live. Just because it's missing the "ultimate" pizza place is hardly a good reason to leave....unles you're just being sarcastic.

I'm sure that most people would be able to find good pizza either within, or very near any location in Lincoln Square. Now, if its good bratwurst you're looking for, then look no further....

First Pizza, especially Chicago Pizza is a very subjective topic.

Always thought the pan pizza was the Chicago style...was what lifetime Chicagoians were giving us when we ate at their houses or met them at their favorite Chicago Style Pizza

My favorites:
J B Alberto's Pizza
Nancy's
Tedino's

The west part of Lincoln Square, north of Lawrence between Lincoln and the river and channel, is the best part, for me anyway. Over here Mexican, Greek, Korean, Arab and Bosnian chow is more common than bratwurst, there's even an Irish joint with good food run by a Greenhorn from Clare and a good diner at Foster and California. Still lots of Greeks left over from the old days when there were zillions of Greeks up here.

SNAP:

Lou Malnati's Best Pizza Winner - Lou Malnati's Chicago Pizzeria - Esquire

We knew that pizza was always going to be hard. That's why our recent poll in search of the most life-changing pizzeria in the country came so close. (See all the polls here.) In the end, the beloved Lou Malnati's of Chicago won by just 0.6 percent. Only two New York–based pizzerias made the top ten, most likely proving that New Yorkers feel they have too many life-changing pizzas to choose from. In any event, the Facebook commentary makes it clear that the quality of any slice is personal.
