Everyone keeps claiming that the suburbs are what's booming, but I'm not really sure anymore. They were, but who wants to move to Oswego with gas at $4 and more?
Hell, I moved into the city, along with a lot of my associates because we're tired of sitting in bumper to bumper gridlock over an hour each way to and from work. Our time is much more valuable than a few more square feet.
I would guess maybe you are single. Families still are heading to the suburbs; they want that few more square feet, yards, good schools, parks etc.

That is true, but I've already started considering family life. I'm elated that there are more families staying in the city and being more active in the local school system.
I'm not married, but I can't see getting home late at night after a long and stressful commute helps keep any harmony in the family.

There are some families that can afford living in ''cool'' cities (aka expensive cities) and can afford private schools, if needed.

The key is working close to home.

If you work in the burbs, living in the burbs is a no-brainer.

If you work in the loop, you might want to start considering other options.

Great response -- unfortunately this isn't the forum section that focus' on issues for those living in the Chicago suburbs.

In other words, I made that post with the intended audience being city workers/city dwellers.

That's because you're looking at things from the perspective of a single person's lifespan. This is a much larger and longer process.

Oswego has 31,000 inhabitants, 3/5ths of one of Chicago's 50 community areas.

Heading south on 55 all the way out there at about 4:30-5:00 pm from the city is a treat.

Kinda funny well were on this subject. both SB and Chicago are Democrat Cities and ironically they are both bleeding people and middle class citizens and losing population. Ironic isnt it.
