Default decent Casino's near Waukegan ??

We will be travelling to Chicago for the first time next month to see our son graduate from Navy boot camp. We may have a day or so alone after he leaves for A school in Florida.

We know absolutely nothing about Chicago (or Waukegan where we are staying) except that we heard the crime rate had gone up like 30% since last year. So even though we can get online and find casino's...we don't want to get one in a questionable neighborhood and get mugged or something.

Any suggestions?? Thanks!

The closest casino, or at least easiest casino to get to from Waukegan, is the Potawatami casino in Milwaukee.

And whoever told you Chicago's overall crime rate is up 30% is FOS. Furthermore, if "questionable" neighborhoods make you nervous, then boy you're gonna love Waukegan.

^ What he said. Unless you plan on spending time in Chicago (which I would recommend), then you can go to Horseshoe which is across the other border in Indiana. Maybe a 25 minute drive from Chicago.

The one in Milwaukee is about the same distance away and easier to get to. If you'll be staying long enough to hit up both, you can always do that. Not being a gambler myself I've never been to a casino. But I hear Potawatomi is nice as casinos go, and the Rivers casino (the one by the airport) is brand-spanking new.

I live 10 Miles from Waukegan and I frequent the Casinos nearby. I would highly suggest you do not go to the casino near ORD, it's called Rivers Casino. This place has more seedy people than typical casinos and the payouts aren't nearly as good IMHO. I also would avoid the riverboat casino aka the Grand Victoria in Elgin. Although it sounds fun to be on a boat, it is not nearly all it's cracked up to be, it is however fairly safe compared to the other areas. You also have the Harrah's in Joliet which my uncle swears by, but I have never been there since it is much further than the Potawotomi and is definitely not the best of areas. Generally they are all in less than perfect areas but the security around these places is usually pretty good, some are just better than others

My suggestion is definitely the Potawotomi in Milwaukee WI, it can be a little tricky to find the canal street parking lot and there aren't many noticeable signs, just bring your GPS and you'll be fine. Regarding safety, they have security everywhere and I have never once felt unsafe there. They have a huge selection of Slots, video poker, and table games. They also have a decent players club card, which is free to enroll and I believe you receive $10 just for signing up. If it is your birthday month they also give you $25, just swipe your card at the kiosk : ) I would also note, this is a huge smokers fest, although they have a smoke free area upstairs, you won't find much action on the upper level( a few tight slots). And they have a cool little bar/club area with free live music on most nights.

I have heard good things regarding the Horseshoe but I have so much credit at the potawotomi, it probably wouldn't be worth it for me.

Congrats to your son graduating, have fun and good luck!

Sublime101...thank you so much! I know about boat casino's. I live in Texas and have been to the ones over in Louisiana and your right. They seem small and crowded. We will probably check out that one there in Milwaukee and we love those little bar/club things also! Thanks alot guys!
