Hi,

I stay in Chicago downtown and recently I got a job in St Charles. I am taking a Metra train to Geneva and from their taking a cab to St Charles. The cab is turning out to be very expensive. Are there are other options? Let me know...

Thnx.

See about getting a parking pass for the Geneva lot, buy a cheap beater car and leave it at the lot out there.

How much does the parking pass cost? And do you know if there is any waiting time there to get it?

Parking in the permit lot is $80/quarter and the wait list is about 5 years long. There is an overflow/daily parking lot that is $1.25/day and allows overnight parking. There is a brand new covered garage that just opened but stupidly, the don't allow overnight parking in it. The gas station around the corner (I think its called Geneva Gas) has some spots available at $105/quarter.

Do you know of any cab service which provides daily trip to St Charles without me calling them. Probably provide some discount as well on the rate? Is that possible?

Depending on where your job is, taking a (Pace Bus) might be an option. Maybe you could bike?

Yeah, Pace is pretty useless. The fact is, the suburbs were not designed for the carless. Before I got my commuter car for Geneva, I would take a cab or ride a bike, but it got to be too much trouble.

Thats true. Calling the cab in the morning and evening is lot of trouble. So, do you know of any cab guys whom I can establish some relationship so that they come and drop me on time without me calling. Also, who can charge me less since I am gonna take his cab every day.

Don't really know. I'd call up every cab company and in town and see if any are interested in your proposal. If this is a permanent job, I think if you do the math you'll be better off buying a cheap car for the commute and leaving it in Geneva.
