Have you ever eaten from an actual food truck before? Some are VERY good.

Not every food truck charges more. In Chicago they charge(d) more, because before the ordinance was passed, you couldn't cook on the truck, meaning you had to have an actual kitchen first to make your food. That means your operation cost goes up, and you have to charge more money. Now, the cost is less, which is why in other cities it doesn't cost as much as Chicago.

The empanadas we talked about has a brick and mortar store near Clark and Diversey. If you never knew about the truck Chet, you'd have no idea about it going into their store. Very good ratings by the way. I have coworkers who are of Colombian descent who have said the empanadas from the truck are legitimately good empanadas. But I guess you know more about this than my coworkers who basically grew up with amazing empanadas.

Philip Foss had a food truck. You know who that is? Well, he used to be the executive chef at Lockwood in the Palmer House. He's owned something called El Ideas for awhile, which of course has excellent ratings from the Chicago Tribune and was named one of the best new restaurants in the city last year by Chicago Magazine. It'll be featured on I believe both Bizarre Foods and No Reservations soon.

If you really think that it's a bunch of dirty water cooks like a food cart in NYC, then you have no idea what you're even talking about in the slightest bit about this.

I am getting so hungry.
Garcia's in Lincoln Square, get 2 steak tacos, an order of tortillas, an order of beans or rice for a little over $10.00.
Take some steak out of both because there is way too much, save it for the next day to use on your extra tortilla's and heat up your other half of your beans or rice. $5 to 6 for a meal.

I think you mean El Llano? The one by me does do a $5 lunch special. I'm not sure if Brasa Roja (same folks) do too, but they also generally have good eats for cheap

Anybody ever eat at Avanti Caffe in the Loop on Jackson? They have some good stuff and good prices. They have a number of 6 inch subs and calzones at the $5 level or around there. My coworkers have been raving about The Godfather which is $5.25 and looks huge. Most of their salads are under $5 too (that includes large salads). Place has really good prices for the portion sizes...and the food is good too.
