We did look at hotels on Hotwire, but they all wanted $20+ extra for a two bed room and they also wanted to charge around $40 a day for parking, so we weren't having that. We booked a hotel about 2 or 3 miles from O'Hara and it said the hotel is 1 mile from the Des Plaines Metra station and 3.5 miles from the Blue Line. While it isn't in the city sadly, it does seem to be definitely better than Brideview with being able to take the train and not deal with parking.

So are these places you can go to where they'll give you rides home or are they just bars?

Unfortunately Metra trains don't run that late either. You might ask if your hotel has a shuttle service to/from the nearest Blue Line station and if it runs all night. Otherwise, you're not much better off than you were in Bridgeview.

The last Metra train going to Des Plaines leaves downtown at 12:30 am 7 days a week, so it's not great for late night. Also service is not very frequent on Saturdays and extremely infrequent on Sunday. Schedule here.

The Blue Line runs 24/7 (about half an hour apart in the wee hours).

There is a Blue Line station inside O'Hare Airport. A hotel is more likely to have a shuttle to the airport than to a Blue Line station. As long as you can get to the airport, you're all set for the Blue Line. In any case, you can always find a taxi at the airport and there are almost always Rosemont taxis waiting at the Rosemont Blue Line station.

They're bars. And ****ty bars at that. Well, it depends on who you are. Let me reiterate. They're very fratty bars.

I'd still stay downtown. You can definitely avoid the parking charges by stashing your car on the street somewhere. I know for sure that you can park just west of 90/94 on Huron, Erie and Ohio streets. There are no parking restrictions and you will be able to find a spot. From there its a 5 minute blue line ride into town or a $10 cab.

It will be way more convenient than O'hare. Getting to O'hare itself is not too bad but unless you are staying at the Hilton you still need to get to your hotel. Do they even have a shuttle at 3 am. I doubt it. You will probably have to take a cab which will probably be $15.

It will be way less hassle to deal with stashing your car for 3 days than it will be to go back and forth to O'hare and then shuttle to a hotel three times in the middle of the night.

The hotel we are staying at is a 10 minute drive from the Rosemont station which also has a park and ride so that will be fine for the day. Considering, we are in a city we aren't familiar with, we will stay out late but getting completely wasted isn't something we're interested in. It's good to hear however, the Rosemont station will have cabs if worse comes to worse and the same thing with O'Hare. We're planning on use the "L" over the Metra because it is cheaper and I saw with the subway they offer an unlimited ride pass for 3 days for only $14. With that in mind, we can just park at the station and ride the subway through the city when we're going places.

Since we're checking in tomorrow morning, it probably wouldn't be best to try to find a new hotel. Also going back to the being unfamiliar with Chicago thing, I feel that my friend wouldn't want to leave his car parked a few miles away for a few days.

So I gather that you switched hotels and you're staying near the Rosemont Blue Line station. Your friend does not want to park his car at the park and ride.

If you park in Rosemount, you're fine. It's not even part of Chicago really..it's the burbs. It's not like it's an unmanned lot. I think the chances of your car getting targeted out of all the ones there is slim. My friend in the burbs parks his car there all the time when he wants to come into the city.

I'm also confused about the "Since we're checking in tomorrow morning, it probably wouldn't be best to try and find a new hotel" but you mentioned Rosemont, which is nowhere near Bridgeview..so you guys got a new hotel or..?

I think he was responding to my suggestion to ditch the O'hare/Rosemont hotel and stay downtown and avoid $40 a day hotel parking by putting the car on the street a couple miles outside downtown.
