Got it. Yeah I can understand the concern there then...but there really is nothing like staying downtown. The thing is that if you really wanted to stay downtown, you could do that and just park it at a park and fly thing near the blue line near O'Hare. Costs money, but I don't think it's that much usually..

Yes that was it. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes we're near O'Hare now. I guess that's better. It's still not in the city but you have to deal with what you can pay.

It's not terrible. I have some friends who have done that before and were fine with it. You have to deal with riding home and it's not FAST, but it's a little better than some other hotels and the ones near O'Hare are decently solid hotels anyway.

I'm excited to visit since I really liked Chicago when I visited as a kid. We first were coming to Chicago for the Pens vs. Blackhawks game Monday, but since Chicago is a big city with a lot to do, we decided to still go anyway. I should have been a little more specific with Downtown and "the Loop". I was more referring to River North and Loop West when talking about Downtown. I remembering going to both and enjoying both places.

jwaiter- What makes you think Clark and Addison and Division and Rush are a little trashy? Are those the bar areas full of the "bros"?

marothisu- For food, I was think places that serve more in the way of American, Italian, or local specialties.

Also, the hotel we're staying at is in the suburbs since it was a lot cheaper and it's in Bridgeview. Will taxis drive us from the city to there and is there an el train/subway station near by we can use and when do they stop running for the night?

The lockout is killing me as well.

I am back in Pittsburgh from Chicago and I'd like to thank everyone for their help and suggestions! We enjoyed our time in your city. On Saturday evening we mostly hung out around Michigan Ave. and went in Timothy O'Tooles and O'Leary's Public House. We enjoyed both neighborhoods but I was a little disappointed to see many of the stores Michigan Ave closing by 9 PM (maybe my expectations with how late they would stay open were a little high but oh well). On Sunday, we went to Durkin's for the Steeler's game in Lincoln Park and liked the neighborhood and the bar. I appreciate the suggestion and it was a great place to catch the game. Lastly on Monday, we ate at Uno's Original and Giordano's, went to the top of the Willis Tower, and just walked around too. We took the train into the city and while the 30 minute from the Rosemont station wasn't the best, it was still better than paying/looking for parking, using gas, and dealing with the aggravation of driving around a city you're not familiar with. ironically with Chicago though, it was constantly 5-10 degrees warmer there than it was back in Pittsburgh which was a good thing of course. The only thing I didn't like was how unrelenting some of the homeless people are! I'm not used to that here in Pittsburgh and we tried to be nice about it to them but they would keep on trying to bother you for 20 feet. Thank you again to anyone who posted here and I hope the next time I visit Chicago is much sooner than in 9 years like the last time.

One other thing that had me mind blown was that you can buy alcohol and even hard liquor at practically any store that sold water. If anyone here has experience with buying alcohol in PA, it's understandable why I was surprised. It's not even that easy to buy hard liquor in the states that surround PA.

Glad you had a good time.

But Yeppp. It comes with experience really. I was the same way when I moved here. After awhile, as bad as this sounds, you learn to just ignore them if you don't plan on giving them money or food. If you ignore them, they won't talk to you more than 5 seconds usually. Even if they're in your face, you just ignore it and they go away to the next person (if there's a next person). Again, it sounds bad but you have to do it. Not all of them are like this, but some are.

Some are really unrelenting, but yeah next time just ignore it unless you plan on giving them money or food.

Yeah, there's alcohol everywhere here. If you didn't notice by some areas like around Lincoln Park (Durkin's)....there's a lot of bars and alcohol in certain areas. Tons of younger people.

And really here, the traffic can be bad in some areas. It's very possible the 30 minute ride from Rosemont to wherever could have taken the same amount of time than if you drove. And yeah, it saves you money and stress. Just get on the train and ride.

Yeah. People like to say Chicago is so cold, but most of the Northeast and other areas of the upper midwest (Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota) and west (Montana, part of Wyoming, part of Idaho) are colder than here for sure in the fall/winter on average.
